Gladiators ESU

Explorer Scouts are for young people from the age of 14 to 18. They can also be Young Leaders and help out with other sections. Our Explorers meet every week on Thursdays, monthly subs are £12.50, and are to be paid monthly. They wear a uniform which is a brown shirt, navy trousers, and our Group Kneckerchief.

Let’s face it, by the age of 14, most young people know what they want. Explorer Scouts, therefore, have a big say in what they do, while being supported by adult volunteers. Explorer Scouts:

  • Try activities such as power boating, sailing, snow and motor sports
  • Deliver campsite services – running activities or helping with site maintenance
  • Fundraise and help in the community
  • Go on camping expeditions in the UK and abroad
  • Go for The King’s Scout Award, Duke of Edinburgh Bronze, Silver and Gold and the Explorer Belt (a 10 day challenge abroad) – all recognised by universities and employers
  • Train as young leaders – working with an experienced adult, they learn how to run activities for young people aged 6 – 14

The Explorers are a very active section with lots of different activities being offered. This year they have been climbing, endured a 24 hour sponsored cyclethon and joined the other members of the Group roller skating, these are just a few of the activities this year.

In 2023 they climbed Pen Y Fan the highest mountain in the Brecon Beacons, visited Churchdown Fire Station, attended St. George’s Day Celebration, go on camp with the whole Group to Trac, Kayaking, Orienteering, Rock Climbing, camped at the County Explorer Camp called Beast, they finished the year with an outdoor ice skating session along with the Cubs and Scouts these are just a few of the activities that the Explorers did in 2023. Some of them also help as Young Leaders with the younger sections in the Group.

Here you will find a diagram showing the position of Badges and Awards on the uniform. You can find out about the badges that Explorers can earn on the national Scout website
