Explorer Scouts are for young people from the age of 14 to 18. They can also be Young Leaders and help out with other sections.  Our Explorers meet every week on Thursday’s. They wear uniform which is a brown shirt, navy trousers and our Group Kneckerchief.


Let’s face it, by the age of 14, most young people know what they want. Explorer Scouts therefore have a big say in what they do, while being supported by adult volunteers.

To try activities such as power boating, sailing, snow and motor sports

Deliver campsite services - running activities or helping with site maintenance

Fundraise and help in the community

Go on camping expeditions in the UK and abroad

Go for The Queen’s Scout Award, Duke of Edinburgh Bronze, Silver and Gold and the Explorer Belt (a 10 day challenge abroad) – all recognised by universities and employers

Train as young leaders – working with an experienced adult, they learn how to run activities for young people aged 6 - 14.


The Explorers are enjoying being back face to face they have been geocaching, there plans to do some backwoods cooking were damped by torrential rain, they have enjoyed tubing at Gloucester Ski Centre, bowling at Gloucester City Bowls Club.   In October some of them enjoyed a weekend camping at Cranham along with other Explorers from Gloucestershire at the event Beast of the Rainbow.   In January the Explorers have been taking part in some challenges during their virtual meetings which involved a bottle of water, and making a picture of the Queen.  A County Explorer Kahoot Quiz and some of them are taking part in the virtual Cotswold Marathon.  They also joined the Scouts for a joint meeting which was a mastermind night.
